Using Linkings to increaase your site’s traffic

Posted by Jackie R. on December 11, 2006

You’ve SEO’ed your web site and there is great amount of content too, but how come there is not much traffic? In this case, you may need to look into your linking strategy so that search engines can classify your site as ‘more important’ than others. For example, Google uses it’s proprietary PageRank algorithms to rank the importance of the site from a rating of 0 to 10 with 10 being the most important.

Effective linking strategies need time to develop, however, but the time spent is worthwhile. It is the most critical part of the SEO process in my opinion as it may safeguard your site in the even Google changes it’s algorithms in the future. The number of incoming links to your site means a positive vote for your site.

However, this does not mean you can start to link to any website. Search engines will look into each link to check whether they are ‘relevant links’ or not. Your site will be given a higher ranking if the site that links to yours is also a highly ranked site which offers rich and relevant content. At the same time you must constantly ensure that your content is rich and relevant as well. If you just link for the sake of linking, your site may be penalized.

So how to go about doing site linkings? Writing articles is one good way.

Articles are a very effective way to create inbound links to your site. You need to write an article in a very specific subject succintly so that it is regarded as fresh information which search engines like so much. At the end of each article, have a brief description about yourself, your site and URL. Next submit it to various article directories and these will be considered as positive votes of your site. Also, if there are people interested in your article, it will be picked up and pasted on their sites as well creating extra votes for your site. Remember, the more articles you write and submit, the more votes you will get and hence your PR rank may climb too. If you
are busy, you can even employ ghost writers to write for you!

That’s all for now. I will discuss some other linking techniques another time.
